The Knights took the field Friday night in hopes of gaining their first victory of the season. Their opponent was the Smithville Smithies. St. Thomas started the game very slow trailing 7-0 after one quarter. To start the second quarter, Senior Ray Benedetti kicked a 29-yard field goal to put the Knights on the scoreboard. After another Smithville touchdown, Sophomore Josiah Moore capped off a solid
drive with a 13 yard rushing touchdown. This would conclude the first half.   In the third quarter, neither team was able to put any points on the board. The Knights trailed 14-10 entering the fourth. A couple minutes into the fourth, Senior Bobby Silagy turned the game around. Smithville punted the ball and Silagy ran it back 80 yards all the way for a touchdown. This electrified the stadium and all the fans were on their feet. Following the punt return, St. Thomas shortly regained possession of the ball. Junior quarterback Tyler Moeglin took the snap rolled back in the pocket, and threw up a deep ball to Senior Ian Vernier who made the catch and made his way into the end zone. The Knights defense again came strong and forced another quick Smithville possession. Tyler Moeglin ran the ball through the Smithies defense for a 45-yard score. This would cap off a 21-point fourth quarter burst for the Knights. With solid defense and a balanced offensive attack the Knights were able to ring the victory bell for the first time this season!
