Northwestern 8-20-2010
Aquinas had a strong showing on Friday night as they defeated Northwestern in a scrimmage at St Thomas Stadium.  In absolutely perfect weather St Thomas played the first stringers for a game condition first half.  With two touchdowns and two two point conversions the Knights scored a 16-7 victory.  The score was not indicative of the way that St Thomas controlled the game.  The defense was stellar in not allowing Northwestern any success until late in the 2nd quarter.  Led by the "Stone Wall"of a defensive front with Dan Kampman, Gino DiMarzio, Ian Vernier and Joel Rich Aquinas shut down the running game and did not allow any time for a QB to see down field.  The tempo was set and the offense showed up for the task.  The receiving corp again showed up large as Ian Vernier combined with Tyler Moeglin for a beautiful toe touching catch for one score,  Bobby Silagy had a number of catches and Sean Dempsey again mixed strong running in with some nice catches and the Knights come away ready for the opener next week verses Marlington!
