Knights get off to a good start! Tuesday saw the Knights travel to Woodridge and do a dual practice with the Bulldogs. In a chippy day the Knights stood toe to toe with a playoff team from 2009. The first unit 10-10 team Aquinas scored in the first 10 plays on a strong option run from Sean Dempsey and held Woodridge scoreless. The second 10-10 set saw Aquinas move the ball but fail to put it in the endzone. Woodridge broke a long 50 yard run on a sweep for their only score of the day.
Friday was a tale of a stronger faster STA team vs a young team from Claymont. Aquinas led by seniors Dan Kampman and Gino DiMarzio dominated the line of scrimmage and held Claymont out of the endzone for two sets of 10-10 and two sets of down and distance. Strong defensive performances were put on by linebackers Ian Crawford, Vince Fisher and Tony Verduce. The two defensive ends Ian Vernier and Joel Rich contained and pressured the quarterback all morning.
On offense Aquinas looked diverse and skilled at RB, and Receiver. The first drive was highlighted by a Moeglin to Dempsey 45 yard touchdown pass. For the next TD, Dempsey found the endzone on a pitch around left end. He led the ground attack with power, good speed and great vision. The third touchdown by the first unit was scored by fullback Joe Blevins on a punishing 4 yard trap behind Kampman and Crawford. Moeglin threw a high for a very high completion percentage and spread the ball around to his corp of receivers led by Bobby Silagy with some great catches, Joel Rich and Ian Vernier who is quickly turning into the sticky hands guy.
Friday saw a hot weather day and a hot football team that is beginning to take shape. Next up is Northwestern on Friday August 20, 2010 at 7:00PM at St Thomas Aquinas Stadium. Come out and check out the "new look Knights"
